APPROACH

More detail on the depth and breadth of my professional experience in design and design leadership.

approach

design is problem solving

To solve any problem, one needs:

Focus - To define the problem clearly and to establish alignment.

Curiosity - ‘Why?’...  is the best question ever.

Optimism - Because what good comes from negativity?

Confidence - To not fear failure.  It’s is just another way to learn.

Opportunism - Be open to better ways to deliver value if they appear

Flexibility - To accept change happens and ambiguity is everywhere.

Diversity - Of all kinds is better.  It’s a fact.

Honesty - Because bullshit, is noise.

I endeavor to bring these qualities to every aspect of my life, not just my work.  I also make every effort to nurture them in my team and my collaborators, to help elevate them to achieve their full potential.

principals & focus

Design is a superpower.

I believe in the value of design thinking to enable change within society and within organisations.  As I have significant experience being immersed in a variety of organisational cultures, I feel I have relevant knowledge and insight regarding how change can occur within them.  I hope to continue to develop this capability and to apply my experience to stimulate concrete action in a variety of contexts and industries.

Responsible business and product

I believe that combating climate change is the most urgent challenge facing the us today and I want to use my experience to stimulate societal change but also to use design thinking and creative problem solving to enable companies shift their business models towards greater sustainability and social awareness.  Doing good and being profitable are not mutually exclusive.  A better way exists.

Meaningful value & design

I believe that meaningful design is now the baseline standard for any new object, service or system.  In a world which is overloaded with things which appeal only to our most primal instincts, meaningful design, which is focused on making things BETTER in quantifiable and qualifiable terms, beyond those which are purely financial, is the only legitimate way forward for market leaders.
